Miyazaki : Sun Messe Nichinan - サンメッセ日南 宮崎旅行 pt.3
On a bright and sunny note the last place we got a chance to visit in Miyazaki was the Sun Messe Nichinan “park”? I’m really not sure what you would call this. It was an open area that stood out with its モアイ像 (Moi statues), a swing like you’d see in a park, but also has some sights to see that were totally unique to this tourist spot. Either way the weather was amazing, and that ocean was calm BLUE and relaxing.
From one bus stop to the next…
we actually left the Udo shrine (If you haven’t seen that post check it out HERE and see what cha missed) and hopped right on the bus heading to the Sun Messe Nichinan. Hiro was super serious about time, as you can see in this picture with the lemon gummi dude. All jokes aside the weather was great and after being in the rainy mountains this was a great change of pace.
The Sun Messe Nichinan is famous for all the Moi statues that are all over the area. Huge statues all with names and back stories written near them. From the bus stop there was a bit of a walk per usual but once we got there, we really didn’t want to leave.
Couples, kids, the elderly, sightseers, and smiles were in abundance. When Hiro told me about this place, I wasn’t quite sure what we would see or what there was to do there, but I’ll just say this, you go there for the view and the energy of the spot.
If you want to know some history about these statues here is an excerpt from EASTER ISLAND TRAVEL :
Moai statues are massive megaliths at Easter Island, and these are what this island is famous for. The moais were built in approximately 1400 - 1650 A.D. by the natives of this island also known as Rapa Nui.
Many know them as the Easter Island heads.

While the Moi statues were the main attraction, there were other things to see there like the swing and some of the decorative art fixtures, similar to the earlier lemon gummi man.
Hiro talked me into getting on the swing but even though the ropes were strong and looked secure I didn’t have confidence in them designing it for someone of my weight lol.
I did get on it any way and it was like being a giant fat kid again…
Luckly for me, there was a line of people that wanted to play on the swing, and I had some free models. ラッキー!
All and all, with the long bus rides, the rainy days in the mountains and all the traveling we did trying to cram as much in as possible. it was a great trip. One that I’ll always remember, and it was a great experience to see more of Japan and not get trapped in the everyday hustle and bustle of life.
Sometimes I forget about all there is to see and do. It’s good to take some time to just see different things and feel the uncomfortable feeling of not knowing where things are and who everyone around you is. It’s good to be the outsider. It’s good to be the new face. It’s good to open your world up to new things… even if it’s just for a few days.
Thanks for taking time out of your day to come chill in my spot and see the images that keep me growing. I hope you enjoyed them and if you did let me know what’s your favorite of the blogs has been. Have a great day!
