Roda Do Brasil: The Plan

First off… I hope your 2023 is going well it’s been a while since I made a blog post and I apologize for that, but with that said let’s get back into the story of the Roda Do Brasil event with Keita and Hiro.

The meet up before the meeting at Tsurumi Station was at the GOOD FELLOWS bar in front of the station.

Hiro told me that the meeting would be in Tsurumi which isn’t too far from Yokohama station. I was there a bit early but she didn’t tell me exactly where we would meet. Eventually when I got the info I met most of the people who would take part in the event near that station. It was good to see Keita and CK (one of Hiro’s students) again.

Once we were all together it was starting off pretty well and the group had good energy so I knew it would be a good night.

Also at the meet up were Nona-san (DJ / Promoter), Maon-san (Capoeira teacher) and DJ Tsunakawa (DJ). The boys were out and ready to get down to business. From the Good Fellows bar we made our way over to a Brazilian restaurant / supermarket that Keita knows that is quite famous “YURI SHOP”. Sadly, I forgot to take a pic of the front of the place because I was so hungry from fasting most of the day LOL.

Once we got into the place it was smiles and a good time. Maon-san’s wife came to the meeting along with another DJ named Palo who was someone I’d never met but I could see he was a cool guy with good energy, and he LOVED to smile and talk. I really wish he had instagram so I could tag him, but he and Maon-san don’t use instagram and I’m not on reeeeeally on Facebook like that so…. we’re at a bit of a standoff with that.

Now that we’re at YURI SHOP - Tsurumi the drinks are flowing some authentic sugar cane drinks, soft drinks, beer you name it! The atmosphere was good the decor was on point and they had tv shows from Brazil on the TV and lots of people were speaking Portuguese, it was dope!

Now let’s talk food because I was too hungry to think about anything else, and let’s be honest, at this point it was a party. People had drinks in them it was around happy hour / dinner time and we were all feeling good.

So anyone who knows me, knows I went for the burger. I had to find out about this Brazilian burger and the quality of the meat was good and it was “a tasty burger”. CK got one of the traditional dishes and I think Hiro did as well but I had to go for a round 2 and ordered a steak with rice dish that came with onions and fries. The carbs were 100% in the house, but the steak was pretty good, I preferred the burger but that might just be because I love cheeseburgers.

With the meat and potatoes out of the way, let’s get to the meat and potatoes, and talk about the whole point of the meeting which was the event on the boat coming at the end of the month.

People voiced concerns about different things. Doing capoeira on a moving boat was probably going to be an issue, at least I thought so. Couple that with it being at night in a glass boat, people had some things on their mind and wanted to make sure it would all be safe. spoilers - the boat didn’t sink

My only concern was about the flash bouncing all over the place and killing the ambient light. Dark boat, very little light, moving boat, lots of people in a small space, my big ass, it was going to be a challenge but one that I was pretty confident I could handle. If you haven’t seen some of the pic on Keita or Nona-san’s instagram then you’ll be in for a treat in the next blog post where I’ll give you the 411 on how it all went down and turned out.

Thanks for reading until the end if you made it this far and again sorry for the late post. I hope it was worth the wait and until the next one. I’m out!
