Roda Do Brasil: The Boat Party
The final piece of the puzzle is finally here… After too long of neglect, I’ve woken up early enough to put this post together. Enough with the excuses already right? Well here we go let’s talk about the actual Roda Do Brasi boat party!
When it comes to these blogs, initially I had the feeling that it wasn’t good to post pics so soon after an event or a gig, to let the client have time to do what they wanted with the pictures without ruining their idea of how they would post them. Well oddly enough it’s been almost a year since this boat event and I’m sure whatever was going to be done with the images are done, so let’s some of the action from the event.
The night started out well, we met up at the dock, it was cold and the covid precautions were still in effect. Looking back on it it’s weird to think how strict things were for events during that covid time and how easily forgotten they’ve become. The idea of an “optional mask” was so far removed from people’s minds that just typing it now feel so odd.
I’m a bit off topic but I guess looking back on things puts some of the norms of the day into perspective. Now in previous blog posts I talked about how worried I was with the glass and reflections, to be honest it wasn’t as bad as I had imagined which was good. The lighting, aside from the changing RGB lights in the floor and I think some overhead lights, that they didn’t really use, it was just ambient light. To be fair the floor lights were more than strong enough for a normal club or party vibe but when you mix in the high flying antics of the capoeira performances, a slow shutter won’t really cut it. Of course I knew better and brought a strobe light but before actually being in the place I was a bit concerned on the lighting.
To say that it took the patrons a little bit to get warmed up and into that party mood would be an understatement, but Keita did a great job getting people hype and Hiro did an amazing job at pulling people onto the dance floor and getting them to join in and shake some booty! The music DJs knew how to pull out the hits that I personally didn’t know, since I’m not from Brazil, but midway through I can’t even tell you how many people I saw singing with their eyes closed at the top of their lungs. The vibe was turned up on that boat… you needed to be there!
Now when the liquor started to flow you know they all started to really get loose. I can honestly say they threw down on the boat when it came to a party. With all the people’s pent-up frustrations, stress from covid, daily life issues, and not being able to really get out and socialize this had to be a breath of fresh air. People were cutting lose and it was a great time.
At some point I’m going to have to go to Brazil to see if my clone is down there because just about every Brazilian there asked me if I myself was Brazilian… and I had to tell them no. Now when I tell you the look of shock was too funny. Whenever I’m around Brazilians though, like outside of this party even at other events or capoeira events people just walk up to me speaking Portuguese and I don’t understand but their energy is so infectious I just can’t help but smile.
I can’t thank everyone involved enough for putting on a good show, and making things memorable. If you made it this far and actually read all this I can’t thank YOU enough. Well gotta head out so until the next one! Be safe, be strong, love someone and know that you’re not alone in this world, now go make someone smile today! If you aren’t following me on IG and the other socials don’t forget about that ;)
