Taking a walk pt.1 Cabbage Patch Kid
If there is one thing that I’ve enjoyed about photography it’s seeing what others don’t. People see things that I don’t, I see things that they don’t. It’s like sharing your world with others. Since I was a child I was always a bit of a home body. Going out side wasn’t the safest thing in my neighborhood growing up so videogames, comic books, movies, and music kept me company most of the time.
When I was a late teen into my early twenties, I was into weight training and body building. During college I wanted to be a trainer in the gym. I gave advice to a few of the guys I knew, even helped on of my friends Nick gain 20 pounds over the course of 5 months. We were still young and it was much easier to put on muscle at that age but exercise and fitness was a very big part of my life during those years. I hear that walking was one of the best forms of exercise, its low impact, steady state cardio, and its something you can do at your own pace. Not to mention you get some fresh air and sun.
Clearing my mind, taking a walk, getting some fresh air, sweating… For me this is one of those times that I really feel a live. Not going out to ‘try and capture something’. Just letting my eyes see what they see and if I see something that speaks to me, just snap it.
I was walking home and along the way I saw an area that was new to me, that was like a farm less than 10 min from Yokohama by train. Usually the farm areas are much further away but in this town they had lots of plots of land that were growing different vegetables. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a farmers market on the weekends around that area.
The big ticket item that was in high volume though was cabbage.
I don’t know about you but when I see these farm fields I just feel, happy. I can’t explain it maybe I was a farmer in another life but to see open fields of life… that I know will feed us, to feel the sun, just typing this is making me feel good and smile. All of this green is LIFE!
Compared to the constant view of buildings and urban city living that I’ve done my whole life, this not so far from the city, but still so untouched piece of earth is simple yet refreshing for me.
For the people that care about camera stuff, these pictures were taken with my Fujifilm X-Pro 3. I like this camera as a walk around even though I only have 2 lens for it, a 23mm and 35mm. They were taken on the 35mm. For work stuff I love my Nikon cameras I’ve been SERIOUSLY eyeballing the Z8 but the price keeps poking me in the eye and I go back out side and continue with my walks LOL.
We all see the world a bit different. For some its the sweeping colorful views, for others it’s singular moments of humanity. For me, a lot of times I catch my self attracted to the things people just walk pass. I’m sure the people living in this area see those farms and think nothing of them. For a city boy like me, I see something long lost to us city folk, but still awe inspiring. Knowing that these plants will sustain life is pretty awesome.
Trying something a bit different with the blog, I want to share more of my personal, and street stuff here. If you remember my site before the recent updates, I had a PLACES and FOOD page on the site but they’re gone. I’m not really an architecture photographer but if I’m out I do like to snap what I see, its just who I am. But mixing them with work stuff seemed a bit out of place and to be one hundred percent honest most people weren’t looking at those pages anyway. So they’re gone but they are still my images. So at some point I hope to talk about them, maybe share the story and use the blog as my photo hang out and story time corner of the internet. If that sounds like something you’re interested in, leave a comment and let me know.
Until the next one, have a good one!
